MISSION STATEMENT
Rosie Kay feels strongly that the arts must have the ability to think with liberty, to speak freely and to make the art you must. We believe in increasing the power of the arts to connect and connecting society as a whole.
VISION
Our vision is to be the foremost female-led dance company in the UK, making work that is important, meaningful and highly engaging.
K2CO will show that dance has the power to inspire, investigate and challenge ideas of today’s society. We will make work that is controversial and explore taboo subject matter.
K2CO is a dance company that makes totally unique, political, and timely work on controversial subjects. We exist to support the choreographic vision of artist Rosie Kay. We aim to highlight the power of dance as an art form and as a means of human communication.
Dance can convey joy, love, passion, fear, sex, sexuality as well as complex socio-political situations from a human perspective. The company aims to create the best quality dance which is at the forefront of world contemporary dance theatre.
The company uses ways to help audiences engage- through targeted engagement work related to the themes of each show, through digital capture and distribution and through professional training programmes to increase education, technical and thinking skills in the dance sector.
INCLUSION and DIVERSITY by Rosie Kay
"I have been lucky enough to work on many different levels and scales during my career, and at the root of my choreographic work I started in community based practice. The past few months have made me think deeply about inclusivity, a word we use so often, and specifically how it profoundly relates to dance.
In dance we work collaboratively, we work with people and we work together. Our material is our bodies, our currency is movement and sharing of physical exchange.
There is little that I love more than sharing a creative space with people - the joy and focus that can be found in an open, fun and hardworking studio space. The excitement of bringing together a diverse range of people and the exchange of thoughts and skills that happens when you create new work from scratch. I am proud of the teams that have that have created such a variety of different and well-received shows.
I absolutely welcome and encourage people from all backgrounds, all identities and all beliefs and different view points to work with me and to be part of making exciting art about the world we live in. I would be really distressed by the thought, or reality, that artists might be put off working with me, or sharing ideas with me, because they think I hold non-inclusive views. This simply is not true. It is through my past, present and future work that this can be seen, and it is in the way I embrace working with a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds, beliefs and standpoints.
I want to see a way to dance through any kind of division, I do not want opinions to divide people. I respect utterly the freedom of thought and conscience, and I think the arts are the place where diversity should be embraced and celebrated.”
MISSION
K2CO will work with academics, universities, artists, and communities to research works. These include participants recruited through charities on many themes.
We train and nurture professionals, preparing them for the world of work and exploring themes of Rosie Kay’s work and principles. We do this through a robust training programme that supports participants from diverse backgrounds.
We create and produce world class dance and bring it to audiences in England, working with the top large-scale theatres in the UK, inspiring and making work that becomes a talking point before, during and afterwards.
We have an outstanding engagement programme, recruiting local dance artists around venues areas, embedding training and choreographic skills, and reaching hard to reach participants who are treated as future professionals.
We work at the cutting edge of technologies in collaboration with creation, and in capturing our new works, distributing our work and ideas to an online audience.
